Deloitte Corbet Cup and Shield Finals scores big success
The Deloitte Corbet Cup and Shield finals took place on Tuesday 2 May, with Sylvans winning the Deloitte Corbet Cup, defeating Northerners AC 3-0, and Guernsey Rangers beating Belgrave Wanderers to win the Deloitte Corbet Shield.
The under-12 tournament had more than 175 players across the two divisions, with 11 teams playing against each other overall.
The league began in September with teams playing against each other on a round-robin basis, with the top four teams competing for the Corbet Cup and the remaining teams competing for the Corbet Shield.
Deloitte has sponsored the Corbet Cup and Shield for more than 10 years as well as the Guernsey Football Association's (GFA) primary school community coaching programme.
Gary Roberts, GFA Chief Executive, said: ‘We remain grateful for Deloitte’s continued support each year. The Corbet Cup competition is a key event in the local football calendar each season as it is the first time these young players will experience competitive football. However, whilst the football does become more competitive at this time, it is great to see that there is a continued focus on player development and enjoyment to ensure that these young players develop and retain a lifelong love of the game.
‘Our community delivery programme within local schools has reached more than 1000 children, across both primary and secondary age groups over the past year, and has included girls-only sessions in many schools. Thanks to Deloitte’s sponsorship, we’ve been able to go into 17 schools and deliver over 400 hours of football-based sessions with school children across the island.’
Partner in Audit and Assurance at Deloitte, David Becker, said: ‘We are proud to support the Guernsey Football Association for another successful year of the Deloitte Corbet Cup and Shield tournament and the primary school delivery programme.
‘At Deloitte, we want to make an impact that matters in our community. We want to support the next generation through sport and we’re proud to help put on this event year after year.’
