Sylvans SC are to recreate first ever game as part of centenary celebrations
SYLVANS plans to recreate the atmosphere of its first ever game in 1922 when it takes on St Martins AC on 19th March.
As part of Sylvans Sports Club’s 100th anniversary celebrations, it is hoped that a big crowd will attend the game at 2pm,
“We are looking to recreate the atmosphere of Priaulx League match-days of yesteryear and in doing so make the 100th anniversary of this particular fixture extra special” said Adrian Brown, President. “On the 5th October 1922, the newly registered Sylvans played their first match against St Martins AC.
While we may be a few months early, we want to recreate the atmosphere of that exciting day for all the family and make the 100th anniversary of this fixture extra special. Fundamental to the success of the day is to attract as big a crowd as possible to the match” added Jason Le Ray, of the Organising Committee.
The gate price for adults will be £3 but all under 16s and over 65s will have free access to the game. Extra parking will be made available at the nearby West Legion premises. Islanders and all those connected to both clubs are cordially invited to the game and encouraged to arrive early and make a real afternoon of what promises to be a top class game of Priaulx League football.
Kick off on the 19th March is 2pm but fans are encouraged to arrive early from 12:45pm to secure the best vantage points and enjoy the pre-match atmosphere.
As part of the Centenary celebrations, Sylvans has also established the 'Henry Le Ray Centenary Challenge Trophy’. Henry was a co-founder of the Club and Sylvans' first ever President. The idea behind the trophy is that a Sylvans Team (junior or adult) once a year will be offered the chance to organise a football festival, a charity event, a one off game or invite a special team from on/off island to play for it.
The Sylvans Committee are delighted that the first ever fixture for the Henry Le Ray Centenary Challenge Trophy is to be competed for by Sylvans SC and St Martins AC U12 (Corbet Cup year group) at a match also scheduled for the 19th March just before the Priaulx fixture. The Corbet Cup squads (school Year 6) from both clubs will play a friendly match from 12:45pm.
