1000 local children given access to football lessons thanks to GFA and Deloitte

The Guernsey Football Association (GFA) has supported more than 1,000 primary school students across the island with football lessons thanks to support from Deloitte in Guernsey.

The Deloitte Community Programme delivered 278 hours of physical education to 1,254 children across 12 schools. Additionally, the programme supported girls' football in 13 schools, involving 380 girls in football activities through 154 hours of coaching and play.

Deloitte’s sponsorship also saw the under-11s Deloitte Corbet Cup and Shields take place from September 2023 to May 2024. It brought together 225 players across 14 different teams throughout the season and is the children’s first competitive tournament. It is a highlight in the local youth sports calendar
with 91 games and a remarkable 539 goals scored.

David Becker, Partner at Deloitte, said: ‘We’ve supported the GFA for more than 10 years and we are so pleased to reach so many children on the island through physical education. It’s extremely inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and dedication of these young athletes.’

Gary Roberts, Chief Executive of the GFA, said: ‘The schools PE programme is at the heart of our work in supporting young people to be active, whilst the Corbet Cup competition is a great example of providing young athletes with their first opportunity to develop their skills and engage with peers in a competitive environment.

‘We are grateful to Deloitte for their support and commitment to our community.’
